LPC Headquarters
While studying off-campus in New York City, this studio focused on analyzing the practices of the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission and the city’s landmarked urban fabric. Following this research, the prompt was to design a new LPC headquarters.
The selected site, at the corner of Broadway and Thomas Street in Tribeca, is currently occupied by a landmarked cast-iron building and a vacant McDonald’s. The design aimed to create a respectful yet bold intervention that preserves the historic structure as a distinct urban artifact. Through modular, proportional massing, the new architecture appears to pixelate and wrap around the landmark, elevating its presence while weaving it into a contemporary civic identity.
